The Maine Real Estate & Development Association (MEREDA) is pleased to host its next Members-Only Breakfast Seminar titled “Dealing with Distressed Sales: Strategies and Opportunities for Buyers and Sellers”. Join us on Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 7:30 – 9:00 AM at the University of Southern Maine’s Abromson Community Education Center, 88 Bedford Street, Rooms 109 & 110, Portland, ME.

With the current real estate market greatly affected by distress in the credit and consumer markets, more and more sellers are experiencing situations where options are limited and timing is short. Pressure from lenders, lackluster buyer motivation and limited availability to credit hinders dealmaker options. As real estate professionals, fiduciaries and consumers, what do we need to know to survive and prosper in this market?

Our panelists will provide an overview of the current market environment and issues, talk about the foreclosure process, timing and procedures and what you should know when dealing with buyers or sellers involved in foreclosure. Topics to include: Civil, Criminal, Priority issues, Title issues, Bankruptcy issues, Deficiencies/Debt forgiveness. Panelists will also speak about Accelerated Marketing – when time is the highest priority, how do you maximize dollars with limited time? Lastly our panelists will speak about opportunities: as investors, brokers, developers and real estate industry professionals, where and how are we going to prosper in 2009? Topics to include: REO, Short sales, Auctions, Note sales, Bankruptcy, Deed in lieu.

Panelists Include: Paul Peck, an attorney with Drummond & Drummond in Portland, Thomas Saturley, President of Tranzon Auction Properties and Michael Carey, an Auctioneer, Associate Broker, and the National Account Coordinator at Tranzon Auction Properties.
