About the Event:
What is title insurance and why is it important in a real estate transaction?  Join us on April 9th to learn the basic nuts and bolts of what title insurance is, why it’s important, what a title insurance policy insures and does not insure, how title insurance fits into both residential and commercial real estate development, what kind of issues it can resolve, and some common misconceptions about title insurance.

This program is designed to inform and educate real estate professionals in Maine on the basics of title insurance and what it involves. Attendees will learn about the different types of policies and coverages available in real estate development, common myths, various title defects that can delay development, and how title insurance can help owners and developers avoid costly resolutions.

Meet our Presenters:

He is a graduate of the University of Maine School of Law. As an attorney, Forrest has handled complex commercial and residential transactions, and brings a wealth of experience in working with lenders, developers, homeowners, future homeowners, and real estate agents to solve complicated title insurance issues and real estate matters.
Forrest currently serves as a Public Member of the Maine Real Estate Commission, a member of MEREDA’s DevelopME Committee, as well as the Title Standards Committee within the Real Estate and Title Section of the Maine State Bar Association.

Why This Matters — Right Now

“Maine’s housing shortage undermines all our communities and our entire statewide economy,” says Patrick Woodcock, President and CEO of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce. “This coalition is here to change Maine’s trajectory by implementing pragmatic solutions that unlock housing development and allow our communities—and our people—to thrive.”

Backed by respected statewide leaders including the Maine Affordable Housing Coalition, MEREDA, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, and the Portland Regional Chamber, Build Homes, Build Community is mobilizing Mainers to:

  • Lower the cost of housing construction by reducing unnecessary regulations
  • Encourage communities to welcome housing through targeted assistance
  • Promote convenient connected communities where services are close and Mainers thrive
  • Accelerate permit approvals at the local and state level

Supported by partners such as Lighthouse Credit Union, Kennebec Savings Bank, Zachau Construction, Westbrook Housing Development, Bangor Savings Bank, and many others, the campaign is gaining fast momentum.
