MEREDA’s Annual Real Estate Spring Conference
The Chamberlain Model – Developing Maine’s Future: Then and Now
September 3, 2020 – 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Holiday Inn By the Bay
88 Spring Street
Portland, ME
MEREDA is developing an exciting topic for the Spring Conference, scheduled for September 3, 2020. Inspired by the Bicentennial excitement sweeping the state, the Maine Real Estate and Development Association (MEREDA) takes a historically-minded stance to their 2020 Spring conference. The great Mainer and celebrated Civil War general Joshua Chamberlain famously encouraged his home state to focus on and to develop specific native economic sectors which he believed would be necessary to the then-fledgling state’s success. With The Chamberlain Model: Developing Maine’s Future Then and Now, MEREDA’s 2020 Spring Conference will highlight the risks and rewards of Chamberlain’s economic outline, and look to chart the course for Maine’s next 200 years of economy. An expert-packed lineup of speakers and future-facing panelists promise a dynamic and informational conference.
Dr. Glenn Cummings (President of the University of Southern Maine) takes to the podium as the keynote speaker for the Spring Conference. Dr. Cummings will lead the discussion defining Maine’s historic and current economic identity, and analyze the necessity of future investment and growth in certain sectors.
Dr. Charles Colgan (former State Economist of Maine) promises to deliver a detailed review of Maine’s current development trajectory and overall marketplace health.
State Historian Earle G. Shettleworth, Jr. will impart a historical context to the discussion, establishing a more concrete understanding of Maine’s traditional economic strengths and weaknesses.
MEREDA enlists Hannah Pingree (Director of the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future) to offer the perspective of the current State Administration’s economic priorities.
Maine inventors and entrepreneurs will comprise the conference’s panel, introducing their cutting-edge products and services being developed in Maine and shaping the state’s future. MEREDA encourages conference attendees to bring questions, ideas, and perspectives to engage in the panel discussion.
We will also unveil the 2020 MEREDA Index at the Spring Conference, so mark your calendar and plan to register early.
