Maine Preservation, founded in 1972, is a nonprofit member-based, statewide historic preservation organization. Our mission is to promote and preserve historic places, buildings, downtowns and neighborhoods, strengthening the cultural and economic vitality of Maine communities. Maine Preservation’s primary programs and activities include our Field Service Program, offering initial guidance on-site assistance to organizations, local officials, owners and developers revitalizing historic buildings; our Protect & Sell Program which works to sell significant historic properties throughout Maine to new private owners who agree to rehabilitate them in accordance with a preservation easement; Tax Credit Projects, providing technical assistance to owners and developers seeking to use state and federal historic tax credits, which since 2008 have sparked 94 privately developed projects investing over $500 million in Maine. Maine Preservation is a nonprofit partner in five of these projects that have invested more than $32 million, ensuring the projects’ economic viability.
