<strong>Working Groups Meeting in Advance of Next Session</strong> Though the Legislature is not formally in session, a number of working groups have begun to meet to discuss potential legislation for next session. Of particular interest to MEREDA are the <strong>Housing Innovation Production Working Group</strong>; exploring the challenges and opportunities of modular and manufactured housing. This arises from LD 1453, Resolve 2025, Chapter 105. Additionally, the <strong>Regulatory Barriers to Housing Construction Working Group</strong>; exploring the existing local and state laws, regulations, and building codes that impact housing construction costs. This arises from LD 1375, Resolve 2025, Chapter 64. The Regulatory Barriers working group recently took preliminary steps to start the process to recommend allowing single-stair egress in multi-family homes up to four stories, with a possible municipal opt-in up to six stories! More to come on this as MEREDA fights to enact the recommendation! <strong>Laws from the First Regular and First Special Sessions Take Effect on September 24, 2025!</strong> The MUBEC boards and administration will be moving from the State Fire Marshal’s Office to the Maine Office of Community Affairs (MOCA) on this date! <strong>MEREDA will continue to remain diligent advocating on our members’ behalf, </strong>working in the months ahead on our policy priorities and preparation for the next Legislative Session.
